A TIME TO BE BORN: Edward Grant was born on January 10, 1938, in Meggett, SC. He was the son of the late Margaret “Charlie” Rivers and the late Hector Grant. He was educated in the public schools in Meggett, SC. A TIME TO WORK: Edward was the prototypical jack of all trades going from one venture to the next. Edward owned or operated multiple businesses based on his passions. He loved music and entertainment and this passion led him to sing with several groups and eventually to concert promotions. Edward was not scared to take a chance on a business and took a risk in several endeavors across the states including owning a cab service, a limo service, and a hair salon. Edward was also a personal driver for a client in New Yor City and his latest endeavor was a transportation company. He was truly an entrepreneur at heart. A TIME TO WORSHIP: Ed knew God and he had a love for the word and a hunger to learn and understand the scriptures. He was a most recently a member of St Paul AME Zion Church. A TIME TO ENJOY: Edward really enjoyed watching old kung-fu films, going to the movies, and seeing live bands. Anyone who knew Ed knows he loved to sing and loved a good ole buffet restaurant. He also enjoyed playing chess and often spent hours challenging anyone who would play him. Let us not forget his dog Sammie. They were inseparable and Sammie stayed a loyal companion until the very end. Sammie loved to ride shotgun with Ed and is well known around Hollywood for snarling and growling at everyone. A TIME TO DIE: Edward Grant passed away on December 31, 2023. Close family members and friends were with him to share their fond memories, pray, and say their goodbyes to him. He was surrounded by his children as he transitioned from this life. A TIME TO MOURN: Edward is predeceased by his parents Hector Grant and Margaret “Charlie” Rivers Grant; siblings, Florine Grant, John Grant, George Grant, and William Grant (Floria). Edward leaves behind: his loving wife, Doristeen Gainey, as well as his children, Sean, Jumaane (Kenyatta), Nicole, and Keenan. He leaves behind loving sisters, Madelyn Linen (Richard), Mary Drayton (Herman), Dorothy McCroskey (John), Ellen Grant Smith (Leroy), Sylvia Smalls, Earline Bridgemen, Shelia Spearing, Flora Gombs, and Mary Williams; brothers, Benjamin Grant, Carl B. Grant (Debra), James Grant (Cordelia), Herbert Grant (Dorothy), James Robert Grant, James Spearing, John Henry Grant, and Sylvester Ivan Grant; his grandchildren, Chloë, Kareem, Gabriel, Micaiah, Jaden, Keyshawn, who will miss him. He also leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
